Abalone Shell – Incense Bowl Haliotis diversicolor

This abalone shell is traditionally used for burning incense, white sage, or palo santo.

Smudging in an abalone shell is an ancient practice of the indigenous cultures of North America and is part of ritual ceremonies for the energetic cleansing of spaces, places, and personal energy fields.

Herbs or fragrant woods are bundled in the shell and lit.
The natural openings of the abalone ensure gentle air circulation, allowing the incense to burn evenly and safely.

The abalone shell symbolically represents water, protection, and cleansing and combines the elements of water, fire, air, and earth in a single ritual vessel – ideal for mindful smudging ceremonies, new beginnings, or energetic clearing.
